AFC Asian Cup 2023: South Korea Announce 26-Man Squad

The much-awaited and high-octane AFC Asian Cup 2023 is all set to kickstart from 12th January 2023 and teams have started announcing their squads for this marquee event. Notably, the tournament will be played from 12th January 2024 to 10th February 2024 in Qatar.

Head Coach of South Korea, Jurgen Klinsmann, named a 26-man squad for this competition as South Korea look to win the continental title for the first time in 64 years. Several formidable players have been named in the squad to bolster the chances of South Korea.

Tottenham Hotspurs forward, Son Heung-Min, has been named in the squad and he will have to play a big role in this squad in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023. The 31-year-old striker is the captain of the Koreans and has played 116 matches so far in the international arena and has netted 41 goals.

His incredible footballing prowess needs no introduction at all as he has scored 114 goals for Tottenham Hotspurs in the 286 matches, he has played for them. We can expect a rollicking performance from him in the upcoming tournament.

Another important asset in the South Korean team is forward, Hwang Hee-chan. He plies his trade for the Wolves. He is in fiery form in the ongoing Premier League 2023-24 and has scored 10 goals in 19 matches so far for the Wolves.

South Korea are in Group E of the AFC Asian Cup 2023

South Korea have been pooled in Group E alongside Malaysia, Jordan and Bahrain. They lock horns with Bahrain on 15th January 2024 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The match is scheduled to kickstart from 5:00 PM (IST).

The Koreans had played a World Cup Qualifier game (Second Round) on 21st November 2023 and had outclassed China, 3-0. Son Heung-Min had scored a brace and the other goal was scored by Jeong Seung-Hyeon at the Shenzen Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzen, China.

They are presently at the top position in Group C of the Second Round World Cup Qualifiers and have won both their matches in this competition.
