In a big move ahead of the new season of club football in India, Fijian striker Roy Krishna has made a move to Odisha FC from Bengaluru FC. One of the most notable strikers in the Indian Super League (ISL), Roy Krishna has previously played for ATK Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC and will now be plying his trade for the Juggernauts, who are based out of Bhubaneshwar.
Roy Krishna had joined ATK in 2019-20 and was with them for 3 seasons. He then moved to Bengaluru FC ahead of the 2022-23 season and represented Bengaluru FC. Krishna was instrumental in the Blues going to the finals of ISL 2022-23.
Notably, Bengaluru FC had also finished as runners-up in Super Cup 2023 and had won the Durand Cup 2022. Alongside Sivasakthi Narayanan and Sunil Chhetri, Roy Krishna was an important asset for Simon Grayson’s Bengaluru FC.
Bengaluru FC had a fairytale journey in the 2nd half of ISL 2022-23. After a poor start to the campaign, the Blues gained momentum in the year 2023. They had gone on a 11-match unbeaten streak.
They eventually lost to Juan Ferrando’s ATK Mohun Bagan in the high-voltage finals of ISL 2022-23 and thereby, their unbeaten streak came to a halt.
Odisha FC has made some bold moves
After signing in Sergio Lobera, who achieved tremendous success with Mumbai City FC in ISL 2020-21, Odisha FC has also now signed 3 big names. They are namely Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahouh and Roy Krishna.
Odisha FC had finished in the 6th position in ISL 2022-23 and had lost to ATK Mohun Bagan (now known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants) in the playoff match.
Roy Krishna has previously played for a number of clubs
Prior to coming to India, the Fijian striker plied his trade for a myriad of clubs. He started off his senior footballing career while representing Labasa in 2006-07. Krishna played 10 games for them and scored 7 goals.
Post that, he was quite a sensation in Waitakere United, where he played 75 games and had netted 55 goals.
But he achieved the major chunk of his success when he played for Wellington Phoenix from 2014-2019. He scored 51 goals in 122 matches and was a force to reckon with in their striking department.
This will be Roy Krishna’s 3rd club in India and he would be hoping to power the Juggernauts to their maiden ISL title.
