FIFA World Cup 2022: Argentina Crowned World Champions

Date:

There couldn’t have been a better World Cup final. A final full of ebbs and flows. A final which was extremely fitting for a summit clash of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Argentina lifted their 2nd title as Lionel Messi and co. held their nerves during the penalty shoot-out.

Both Argentina and France knew the stakes were quite high in this game. Argentina began the game with full power and exercised their dominance throughout the game. The La Albiceleste netted 2 goals in the first half to take a solid lead. Angel Di Maria scored one goal and the other goal was scored by Lionel Messi via a penalty. One of the greatest footballers of our generation, Lionel Messi was on song last night. Playing his 26th FIFA World Cup game, Messi made it a point that he leaves international football with a bang.

France as we know would not keep quiet in the second half. They came out all guns blazing and the 23-year-old magician Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick in the all-important final. After the 90 minutes, the score-line read 2-2 as the Les Bleus staged an emphatic comeback and scored 2 goals within a span of 2 minutes post the 80th minute. Both Argentina and France scored 1 goal each during extra-time.

The final showdown was to be decided via penalties. France unfortunately could not hold on to their momentum and ended up being on the losing side. Even though Kylian Mbappe and Kolo Muani scored the goals for France in the shoot-out, Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni’s missed goals cost France the World Cup.

On the other hand, every shooter from Argentina scored for them and that ended up being the deciding factor. We also witnessed an electrifying atmosphere at the Tusail Stadium as it was completely jam-packed with ardent Argentina and France supporters.

French President Emmanuel Macron also made his presence felt in the stands and was seen supporting with unbounding enthusiasm and vigour.

Lionel Messi had a fitting end to his international football as he won the one trophy that was missing from his trophy cabinet. The talismanic 35-year-old striker has previously said that this will be his last FIFA World Cup. In all probability, he would be calling it quits from international football as well.
