Indian Twitter erupted with celebrations and cheers for football legend Lionel Messi as Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022, ending the 36-year wait, by defeating France 4-2 on penalties.
Argentina and Lionel Messi won the championship with a thrilling victory over France in the penalty shootout. Despite Kylian Mbappe’s hat trick for France, Argentina won the final.
Messi’s first FIFA World Cup victory was praised by the Indian sports fraternity, who took to Twitter to congratulate the Argentinian player’s win which was decided by a 3-3 tie in extra time. In the 23rd minute, Messi converted a penalty, Angel Di Maria provided a neat finish in the 36th minute, and Kylian Mbappé, a 23-year-old Frenchman, provided a volley just one minute later. Despite this, Messi’s goals gave him victory.
The win solidified Messi’s reputation as one of the all-time great players. Millions of people around the world watched the match, and various Indian sports superstars, including Sachin Tendulkar, Jasprit Bumrah, Sunil Chhetri, Hima Das, and others, congratulated Messi and Argentina on their victory.
