Bengaluru FC displayed great nerves to register their 5th win on the trot in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 and the 1st win against ATK Mohun Bagan. The score-line read 2-1 and former ATK Mohun Bagan players Javi Hernandez and Roy Krishna scored the goals for the Blues.
The Blues entered into the top-6 of the ISL 2022-23 points table as they notched up their 5th consecutive victory. In the year 2023 so far, Simon Grayson’s men have been unbeaten.
In the first half of the game, ATK Mohun Bagan dominated possession. There were a few chances that sprung up sporadically but it didn’t find the back of net, from both sides.
In the 35th minute, Bengaluru FC could’ve scored their first. Rohit Kumar whipped in a cross for Sivasakthi Narayanan but the 21-year-old forward couldn’t get enough purchase on that cross.
The half-time score read 0-0 and it was a pretty dull and mundane game. It remained all square at the Salt Lake Stadium till 77 minutes. It was Javi Hernandez, the former ATK Mohun Bagan player, who broke the deadlock.
Naorem Roshan Singh tapped a cross into the penalty box and Javi Hernandez volleyed the ball into the back of the net like a tracer bullet. It was Bengaluru FC at the top.
Another former ATK Mohun Bagan Roy Krishna scored the other goal at the beginning of the stoppage time and gave the Blues, a solid lead.
Pablo Perez’s cross from the side was stopped by Vishal Kaith in a fumbling manner but the deflection landed right in front of Roy Krishna, who gently slotted it home. He did not celebrate the goal, out of respect for his former club and his former city.
Bengaluru FC grabbed all 3 points from this game and now emerges as frontrunners to grab the 6th position in the ISL 2022-23 points table. The home side on the other hand is in the 4th position in the points table and has 27 points under their belt.
