ISL 2022-23: Mumbai City FC Emerge Victorious In Thrilling Goal-Fest Against FC Goa

Date:

It was an absolute goal-fest at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa was Mumbai City FC waived off the FC Goa threat. The score-line read 5-3 in favor of the Islanders as they also won the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 League Shield award.

It was Noah Sadaoui who once again scored an early goal. He set the tempo of the game in the 5th minute itself after exercising control on the ball and then smashing the back of the net from close-range.

Greg Stewart then took things into his own hands and scored a brace in the first half. The first goal came through a set-piece penalty and it was matched up to perfection by the 32-year-old Scottish-man.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz was lurking inside the box during the 44th minute when Lallianzuala Chhangte executed a ground pass that also nut-megged a FC Goa player before going to Diaz, who is the leading goal-scorer of Mumbai City FC in ISL 2022-23.

Shortly after this goal, Noah Sadoui whipped in a long ball that found Brandon Fernandes on the run. He simply pushed it towards the goal after being one-on-one with Mumbai City FC’s goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa.

Greg Stewart once again hogged the limelight with a sensational low-flighted set piece free kick. Mumbai City FC were leading 3-2 heading into the break.

Lallianzuala Chhangte scored another goal for Des Buckingham’s men in the 71st minute with a superb penalty. Mumbai were leading 4-2.

Vikran Singh put the final nail on the coffin of FC Goa when he netted a goal in the 77th minute. From a corner, defender Mourtada Fall headed the ball that fell in the trajectory of Vikram Singh. He simply flicked the ball to make sure Mumbai have a 5-2 lead.

In the 84th minute, Brison Fernandes scored another goal as the entire entertainment ceased over there itself. Mumbai City FC won this game 5-3.
