The Indian Super League (ISL) is all set to enter into its 9th edition as ISL 2022-23 kick-starts from today. Two teams in the form of Kerala Blasters FC and East Bengal FC will be locking horns with each other and we can expect the matches to be enthralling and action-packed.
The match will be taking place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi and East Bengal FC will be facing a stern away challenge. The team from Kolkata was in tatters in the last two seasons and a heavy change has been inflicted on the team in terms of strategy and personnel. Head coach Stephen Constantine knows the trials and tribulations of India football and he is all set to make his debut in the ISL as a coach.
Kerala Blasters on the other hand, had an exemplary season in ISL 2021-22 as they finished as runners-up. Under head coach Ivan Vukomanovic, Kerala Blasters FC has been a fantastic side. They would be hoping to cross the finishing line this time.
The two giant clubs have a huge contrast in their performances and the gulf was visible in their performances last year as well. East Bengal have to punch above their weight in order to win the opening game against the Yellow Army.
East Bengal’s new-recruit Cleiton Silva will be hoping to conjure some magic as the talismanic striker has all the hopes of the Red and Gold Brigade pinned on him. He will definitely be the most important player of East Bengal along with Ivan Gonzalez.
In all probability, Kerala Blasters will have their full team available for the game and they would be hoping to win the game with absolute ease. The likes of Apostolos Giannou and Marko Leskovic will be the key players to watch out for in the Kerala Blasters FC line-up.
The East Bengal FC players would look to draw some confidence from their Durand Cup campaign and if they can put up a good show, then the match can be competitive.
However, we feel Kerala Blasters have a clear edge in terms of their recent consistency and also because of their home support. We feel Kerala Blasters would be winning this game against East Bengal FC in ISL 2022-23.
