A few defensive howlers led to another pain-stacking defeat for Manchester United in their pre-season US tour. Erik Ten Hag and his men suffered a 2-3 defeat at the hands of German side Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium.
After Diego Dalot’s stunning goal put the Red Devils up and ahead in the game, Dortmund equalised in the 43rd minute through a goal from Donyell Malen. It didn’t take Malen much time to double up his lead as he scored once again inside 2 minutes.
Manchester United’s defence was under the spotlight as they fumbled and conceded two goals. A lot of work needs to be done by Erik Ten Hag and men as they lost 3 out of the 4 tour games in the USA.
Antony scored the equaliser for Manchester United after he replaced young winger Omari Forson in the side. Notably, Forson was booked in the 27th minute after getting into a clash with Dortmund player, Karim Adeyemi.
Julian Ryerson of Dortmund then targeted Forson for two more occasions and that left Erik Ten Hag and skipper of Manchester United Bruno Fernandes (who didn’t start in this game), fuming and angry.
The youngster was then taken off and his substitute Antony had scored in the beginning of the 2nd half.
Andre Onana showed why he is worth his weight in gold
Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana who was representing Manchester United in only his second game showed everyone as to why his signing was perfect for the side based out of Old Trafford.
His pin-point passes to the other half and his game-sense made him stand-out in this game. Another notably point in the game was when Onana lashed out at former skipper of Manchester United, Harry Maguire.
After a defensive howler from the Englishman almost conceded a goal for Manchester United, Onana went screaming towards him for his blunder.
This simply proves that Andre Onana wants only one thing from his defenders-perfection. And even though Manchester United suffered a close defeat in this game, Erik Ten Hag would be happy that his shot-stopper was taking up responsibilities.
Manchester Unites suffer 3 defeats in tour
After winning the first game of their tour versus Arsenal on penalties, United went on to lose their next 3 matches. They fielded a second-string team against Wrexham and lost 1-3 over there.
Then a strong side faced Real Madrid and then Borussia Dortmund and in both games, the Red Devils tasted defeat.
