After their rollicking 4-1 victory over Chelsea, Manchester United have confirmed a place in the UEFA Champions League 2023-24. Erik Ten Hag’s men displayed a dominant performance against The Blues and confirmed a top-four finish.
Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford had found the net for the Red Devils. It was a sweet victory for Manchester United. United’s win also meant that their arch-rivals Liverpool will not have a top-four finish. They will now have to play in the UEFA Europa League.
Chelsea have had a disastrous campaign so far and are presently languishing in the 12th position in the Premier League points table. With 11 wins in 37 points, Chelsea notched up 43 points in this season.
They spent over 500 million euros in the transfer market, things didn’t go well for Chelsea. They will have to go back to the drawing board and fix things again in order to have a better result in the next season.
Erik Ten Hag had ended Manchester United’s trophy-drought in February
Manchester United’s boss Erik Ten Hag ended United’s trophy-drought for 6 years after they won the Carabao Cup in February. Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 4-2 in the final and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro had bagged the player of the match award in this game.
The match had taken place in the Wembley Stadium in London, which is often labelled as the “Home of English Football”.
Erik Ten Hag labelled the season as a ‘successful’ one. He also highlighted the fact that qualifying for the Champions League was the main objective of the Premier League Giants.
“I think (it is) a successful season but the season is not finished. This club belongs in the Champions League, but this league is very strong, with many clubs competing for this position,” said Erik Ten Hag.
“It is the main objective of the season to get into the Champions League. The competition is tough, many teams with really good squads, good managers, so you are doing a good job (to qualify). For this moment it is the maximum but we want more (next season).”
Manchester United has finished 6th last season in the Premier League and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. Erik Ten Hag has done a fabulous job in his first year as manager of Manchester United.
The 20-time Premier League winners will be locking horns with Manchester City in the FA Cup finals on 3rd June 2023. It will be taking place at the Wembley Stadium.
Manchester United have won the FA Cup on 12 occasions. Only Arsenal have a better record than them as they have won on 13 occasions. Liverpool are the defending champions of the FA Cup.
They beat Chelsea in the final round and they had won an absolute crackerjack of a game in the finals. It was a 6-5 win in the penalty round as the match went right down to the wire.
