In a shocking set of events, a 29-year-old footballer in the form of Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz was eaten alive by a crocodile in a river in Costa Rica. The incident happened when the footballer was doing his swimming exercises at the Canas River in Costa Rica.
This incident reportedly took place 140 miles away from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose. Notably, the footballer along with his friend and cousin went to the river to swim despite warnings being flashed to them.
Jesus Alberto, fondly known as ‘Chucho’ was eaten alive by the crocodile in front of the villagers. Despite the attempts of the villagers to stop him from being attacked by the reptile, he wasn’t been able to be saved.
He plied his trade for a club named Deportivo Rio Canas and had two children, who were aged 3 and 8.
The villagers and the police eventually killed the tiger by shooting the reptile. Eventually, they recovered Jesus Alberto’s from the river.
“With deep sorrow, we make public the death of our player Jesus Lopez Ortiz (Chucho) may God rest his soul. Today is a very difficult day for all of us and we will remember you in the many facets of your sporting life as a coach, player and also as a family man. You will always live in our hearts Chucho. Fly high,” the official statement of the club read.
Notably, the family has asked the public to join hands and help pay for the footballer’s funeral. The football club which he represented took to social media platform Facebook to reveal the details.
“Good morning, people of Rio Cañas, neighbors, we hereby inform you that a sinpe number has been enabled to be able to help the family of Jesus Lopez ‘Chucho’ for what unfortunate has happened today, who wishes to collaborate please make your help at 71087722 in the name of Luis Carlos Montes, also if your aid is physical, whether it is groceries or some other type of help, you can go leave it at the house of Don Daniel Serrano, Doña Tica will be receiving every help that comes out of her heart. Thank you so much in advance. God bless you,” read the Facebook post.
This entire incident has sent shockwaves across the entire footballing community and the social media is filled with posts of condolences and support for the grieving family of the footballer from Costa Rica.
