In a shocking and bizarre report, a Premier League footballer was treated by paramedics for his addiction to Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide). Several canisters of nitrous oxide were found in his house by a friend of his and he immediately took action.
The DailyMail reported that the paramedics treated the footballer and gave him a stern warning and asked him not to repeat it. Notably, laughing gas has been outlawed by the UK in 2023 and repeat offenders can face punishment to 2 years while the dealers can be slapped with a 14-year hefty sentence into the prison.
The player will not be facing any criminal charges but a warning has been flashed by the authorities. He has been dealing with his addiction problems and his repeated attempts to get rid of his addiction has gone into waste. He was also in rehab for this very reason.
Chris Philip, who is the Minister of State for Crime, Policing, and Fire, spoke about the addition of laughing gas.
“Today we are sending a clear signal to people, especially young people, that not only is abuse of nitrous oxide dangerous to their health, but it is also illegal and those caught possessing it will face consequences,” said Chris Philip.
“For too long the use of this drug in public spaces has contributed to anti-social behaviour which is a blight on communities. We will not accept it. This law gives the police the powers they need to take a zero-tolerance approach to this crime,” he added.
Nitrous Oxide has been labelled as a Class C Drug in the UK and several attempts have been made to make sure that this isn’t an addiction. Several athletes have previously taken laughing gas and this list includes some big names.
Several people have a habit of consuming Laughing Gas and they eventually have a psychological dependency over it.
