India has clinched a spot in the FIFA Nations Cup for the second consecutive year.
The competition is regarded as the peak of FIFA esports among the member associations of the international football governing body.
India took part in the FIFAe Nations Series for the first time in 2021, and they did very well to qualify twice in three years for the competition.
This competition is referred to as the “World Cup of FIFA esports.”
FIFAe Nations Cup 2023
In the group stage of the FIFA Nations Cup 2022, which was contested in Denmark in July 2022, India was eliminated.
The 24 countries who will qualify for the FIFAe Nations Cup 2023 will be competing, and the eTigers will be trying to improve on their previous performance.
In addition to India, three other countries from the Asia and Oceania region, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore, have qualified for the final round.
Along with the host country, which has not yet been revealed, they will be joined by 11 teams from Europe, three from the Middle East and Africa, three from South America, and two from North and Central America.
Prior to advancing to the Playoffs, India competed in the Online Qualifiers Main Stage in April. They began their FIFAe Nations Series 2023 quest in December 2022 with the Play-Ins stage.
During the Playoffs stage, the eTigers Charanjot Singh, Saransh Jain, Siddh Chandarana, and Saksham Rattan lost to Indonesia in a hard-fought match by an aggregate score of 2-3.
However, they battled back to defeat New Zealand (0-9 on aggregate) and Japan (1-2 on aggregate) with back-to-back wins thanks to an injury-time goal to secure their place in the FIFAe Nations Cup 2023.
The Indian team’s captain, Charanjot Singh, said: “It is an amazing feeling to make the FIFAe Nations Cup for the second time in a row.
I am proud of the way everyone performed. Hard work has paid off for us, finally. We practiced hard to achieve this and now it’s time to get even better and work harder for the off-line event”.
It is heartwarming to see India making glorious strides in the international eSports arena.
