Minecraft 1.20 Update Sniffer Guide: All You Need To Know

Date:

In the Minecraft 1.20 version, Sniffer was added, much to the delight of players. Fans anticipated its arrival when it won the Mob Vote back in October 2022.

Their perseverance paid off when the Trails and Tales update was launched. Players may struggle to identify this new mob unless they actively seek it out since it doesn’t spawn on its own.

Sniffers do a lot more than some people may anticipate and are pretty intriguing. Read ahead to find out what Sniffers perform, where to locate them, and much more.

Minecraft 1.20 Sniffers

Sniffers aimlessly prowl the area searching for seeds in the most recent update. They dodge obstacles while doing this.

The Sniffer will sometimes pause so that it may smell its surroundings. The Sniffer will push its nose to the earth and search the area for any near ancient seeds.

When a Sniffer discovers a seed, it uses its nose to dig into the soil until it locates the pitcher pod or torchflower seeds.

This mob requires a least 6×6 block space to sniff for ancient seeds. After doing so, the Sniffer must wait eight minutes before tracking these objects once again.

However, this mob can’t dig through every block. Sandstone, stone, and other types are just too hard for it. However, it is possible to dig through certain Minecraft blocks:

  • Dirt
  • Grass Block
  • Podzol
  • Coarse Dirt
  • Rooted Dirt
  • Moss Block
  • Mud
  • Muddy Mangrove Roots

The Sniffer will be derailed by everything else. The only other behavioral characteristic of this mob is that it can breed.

Because it seeks torchflower seeds, the 1.20 update allows for the breeding of two Sniffers from those seeds.

They do not spawn a baby Sniffer thereafter. They will instead scatter an egg that will ultimately hatch into a third mob. After breeding, they need to cool down for five minutes before they may breed.

When the egg hatches, a baby Sniffer is released. In theory, this is a snifflet.

It takes 48,000 game ticks for these baby mobs to mature into adults. This equates to two days in the game of Minecraft.

Only suspicious sand that forms in warm waters is suitable for the spawning of sniffer eggs. As a result, they are rather uncommon.

It is fairly simple to hatch one, however, once you discover one. Remember that you are not required to use any particular tool on an egg. The item may be obtained by even manually mining them.

Just set the egg down any place and wait. Once it’s gone down, the Snifflet hatching process starts, and soon, gamers of Minecraft will have one in their possession.
