The Rajasthan Royals (RR), one of the most exciting teams in IPL history, are gearing up for the 2025 season with hopes of reclaiming the title they last won in 2008.
Known for their aggressive approach and reliance on young talent, RR has built a promising squad for this year’s campaign.
However, as the tournament approaches, several concerns have emerged that could challenge their quest for glory.
1. Inexperienced Pace Attack
One of the most pressing issues for RR is their pace bowling lineup. With the departure of key players like Trent Boult and the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal, the team is left relying heavily on Jofra Archer and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
While Archer has been a standout performer in the past, his recent form has raised concerns.
In the T20 series against India, he took six wickets but at an alarming economy rate of 10.30.
Farooqi, who was impressive in earlier leagues, struggled during the Champions Trophy, managing only two wickets in three matches with an economy of 7.28.
2. Limited All-Rounder Options
Another major concern for RR is their lack of reliable all-rounders. Currently, Wanindu Hasaranga is the only recognized all-rounder in the squad, primarily known for his bowling rather than batting prowess.
His recent batting form has not been encouraging, which raises questions about his ability to contribute significantly lower down the order.
Riyan Parag is another player who can provide some all-round capabilities; however, he has not yet proven himself as a dependable bowler capable of delivering four overs consistently in a match.
This lack of depth in all-rounder options means that RR may have to rely heavily on their impact player to fill gaps in both batting and bowling.
Without a strong all-rounder presence, they risk becoming overly dependent on their primary bowlers and batsmen.
3. Over-Reliance on Key Players
The Rajasthan Royals are at risk of becoming overly reliant on a few key players, particularly Shimron Hetmyer and the opening duo of Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Hetmyer is currently their only main overseas batter and serves as a crucial finisher for the team. If Hetmyer struggles with form or fitness, RR may find themselves lacking alternative options to step up in high-pressure situations.
