CSK Players IPL 2026 Auction

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a tough time in IPL 2025, winning only 2 out of 10 matches.

To improve their team for IPL 2026, CSK is likely to make some big changes. Here are five players they might release before the next auction:

1. Matheesha Pathirana – INR 13 Crore

The Sri Lankan pacer, once a promising asset for CSK, has seen a decline in performance post his hamstring injury in 2024.

In IPL 2025, Pathirana managed only nine wickets with an average of 33.11 and an economy rate of 10.39, a stark contrast to his impressive 32 wickets at an average of 16.87 and economy of 7.90 in IPL 2023.

Releasing him could free up ₹13 crore, allowing CSK to invest in more consistent performers.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin – INR 9.75 Crore

Ashwin’s return to CSK in 2025 came with high expectations, but his impact has been limited.

At 38, concerns about his agility and adaptability in the T20 format have surfaced. Former India coach Sanjay Bangar suggested that CSK might consider releasing Ashwin to free up funds for younger talent.

3. Deepak Hooda – INR 1.7 Crore

Hooda’s role as a middle-order stabilizer has not yielded the desired results.

His inconsistent batting and limited bowling contributions have raised questions about his fit in the CSK setup.

Releasing him could open opportunities to acquire a more dynamic all-rounder.

4. Mukesh Choudhary – INR 30 Lakh

Once a promising left-arm pacer for CSK, Choudhary’s recent performances have been underwhelming.

His inability to make significant breakthroughs and control runs has made him a less viable option in the bowling lineup.

Considering the depth in CSK’s bowling department, releasing Choudhary could be a strategic move.

5. Rahul Tripathi – INR 3.4 Crore

Tripathi’s inclusion aimed to bolster the top order, but his returns have been inconsistent.

With emerging talents and the need for a more reliable top-order batsman, CSK might opt to release Tripathi to explore other options in the auction.

By releasing these players, CSK could free up approximately ₹28.15 crore, providing substantial flexibility to target impactful players in the IPL 2026 mini-auction.

This strategic overhaul aims to blend experienced leadership with fresh talent, ensuring a more competitive and balanced squad for the upcoming season.
