“Batsmanship Was a Big Letdown’ – CSK Skipper MS Dhoni After Defeat against RCB

Date:

Chennai Super Kings lost to RCB by 13 runs and have been knocked out of the tournament. And, post-match CSK skipper MS Dhoni looked unimpressed with the batting performance of his side, who failed to chase a decent total of 174 runs in stipulated 20 overs.

CSK becomes the 2nd side in IPL 2022 to get knocked out of the tournament. Before them Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL winners, were the side to get knocked out of the cash-rich league.

CSK bowlers did really well as they restricted RCB to a decent total on a balanced batting track. Also, they got to a good start in their chase on the back of their openers. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway stitched a decent partnership of 54 runs in 6.3 overs. It looked like an easy chase for CSK. But, they lost track as their middle-order batsmen got out playing irresponsible strokes in the match.

Post-match, MS Dhoni looked unimpressed with the team’s batting performance. He said that the bowlers did really well and they restricted the opponent to a decent score. As per him, everything was going really well in the match and favor of Chennai Super Kings. But, a few irresponsible strokes led to the debacle of defending champions against RCB.

“We did well to restrict them to 170-odd runs. I felt in the latter half it (the surface) could be better and we had to get off to a good start, everything was up to the mark and what let us down was the batsmanship,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

“When you are chasing you know what is required and at times you have to curb your instinct and see what really the situation is demanding rather than playing your shots. The shot selection could have been better towards the end,” he said.

“We had a good start and had wickets in hand, the surface kept getting better but we lost wickets at regular intervals. We can look back at some of the shots if we take care of those things, chasing is about calculations and batting first is more about instinct. As a batter in the middle, you have to decide on those things. ” Dhoni added.

Dhoni mentioned that the team needs to keep following the process and things will start falling at the right places.

“We need to keep looking at what went wrong. It’s easy to get distracted by how many points you have. It’s the process that matters more than where you are positioned in the points table. If you take care of those things, then the points table will take care of itself,” he concluded.
