CSK suffered a big blow ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Their star pacer is set to miss the first half of the Indian Premier League due to injury. And, Irfan Pathan believes that youngster Hangargekar will play a key role in the absence of the pacer.

Deepak Chahar sustained the injury during the final T20I game between India and West Indies. And, he is mostly expected to miss the crucial first half of the tournament. Chahar was bought by CSK at a whopping fee of INR 14 Crores. However, the injury will keep him away from donning the yellow color jersey once again.

Young Indian talented player will replace Deepak Chahar: Irfan Pathan

In a recent interaction, Irfan Pathan stated that Shardul Thakur is not available for CSK in IPL 2022. As per him, Hangargekar is a very young and fresh talented player. He added that CSK already has Deepak Chahar’s replacement in their squad and the defending champions look in a comfortable position.

“Shardul Thakur isn’t there as well so you need to make sure that you find a replacement. They have one guy who is young, is raw – Hangargekar. You know he is a fantastic young talent. If a young guy comes into another team I might be a bit more worried but they have MS Dhoni as their leader, their captain behind the stumps and that makes things a lot easier for the younger guys. So I feel they nearly found some sort of replacement,” Pathan said.

The former Indian all-rounder feels that Hangargekar is a very decent all-rounder and he will have to justify his potential in the absence of CSK’s first choice pacer Deepak Chahar.

“Obviously for Deepak Chahar, it is not easy to find the kind of bowler because of the skills he brings to the table like swinging the ball around and getting early wickets. As soon as he gets fit he comes into the playing XI but till then they need to rely on Hangargekar. I think he will be the guy who will actually come with a lot of potentials,” Pathan added.
