Surya Kumar Yadav has been the talk of the town recently after he scored a match-winning knock of 83 runs in just 35 balls in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The knock came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and he simply blew away the opposition.
His knock was laced with 7 fours and 6 sixes and he had a blistering strike-rate of 237.14. Mumbai Indians eventually chased down the imposing total of 200 runs with 3.3 overs to spare.
Speaking about the knock of Surya Kumar Yadav, Sunil Gavaskar lavished praise on him and said that his batting felt like he was playing “gully cricket”.
“SKY was toying with the bowlers. He gives you a feeling of gully cricket when he’s batting like that. He’s just gotten better with practice and hard work. His bottom hand is so powerful that he uses it to perfection. Against RCB, he started with hitting towards long-on and long-off and later agricultural shots all around the park,” he said in a show for Star Sports.
The batter of Mumbai Indians displayed an all-round concourse hitting and activated his beast mode. Often labelled as “India’s ABD”, Surya Kumar Yadav definitely lived up to that reputation.
“Your practice has to be the same as to what you want to do in the matches,” he added. “I do proper practice. We have open net sessions and I keep the fielders on and come out of my comfort zone … I know my game, I know where my runs are and I don’t do anything different,” said the batter on his innings.
Mumbai Indians are in the 3rd position in IPL 2023
With that win over RCB, Mumbai are now in the 3rd position in the IPL 2023 points table. They have jumped from the 8th position to the 3rd position and the 5-time IPL champions can now reach a maximum of 18 points, if they win all their remaining games.
Their biggest concern however will be their skipper Rohit Sharma’s lopsided performances in IPL 2023. He has a paltry average of 17.36 and has been struggling with timing, form and consistency.
Mumbai next lock horns with the defending champions of the IPL, Gujarat Titans (GT). The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and is slated to begin from 7:30 PM (IST).
When the two teams locked horns with each other earlier in this season, Gujarat had won the game by 55 runs. Abhinav Manohar had bagged the player of the game award for his knock of 42 runs in just 21 balls.
