IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant shows potential to be India captain in the future, says Pragyan Ojha

Date:

Pragyan Ojha, the former Indian spinner and IPL governing council member have come forward backing Rishabh Pant as a skipper. He feels that Pant is going to be a brilliant skipper going ahead for India. The Delhiite is currently leading Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 and his side has won four out of six games in the ongoing 14th edition.

Rishabh Pant was appointed as the skipper of DC after Shreyas Iyer sustained a season-long injury. However, the southpaw has received a mixed reaction for his captaincy. Recently, Virender Sehwag criticized Pant for not using his bowling resources to the fullest. As per him, it was Pant’s mistake due to which DC lost a close game against RCB by a margin of 1 run.

During an interaction, Pragyan Ojha said that it is great to watch Rishabh Pant leading DC from the front. He added in the years to come Rishabh Pant will mature as a leader and team management should keep a close eye on the youngster’s leadership qualities and development as a leader.

“The way he has led his team. Somehow I get a feeling that in the years to come, if Rishabh Pant bats the way he has been batting and shows this maturity, he can be the captain. He is showing that,” Ojha said.

“When you talk about a player, the aura around him shows it. It makes me feel that this is the guy who can be the captain of the Indian team.

“That’s what I feel after reading about him after talking to people about him. This is the same aura that was created about Sourav Ganguly, created about MS Dhoni. So that is how it is. I feel he can. It’s still far away.

“But right now, the way he is developing himself as a player and as a leader, that is something that the think tank should have a close look at. Under Ravi (Shastri) bhai, I think he will develop,” he added.
