After a heartbreaking loss against Gujarat Titans in their last outing, the Delhi Capitals will return to the field for the 15th match of Tata IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. They will take on the other newbies of this season Lucknow Super Giants. It will be a cracker of a contest as both teams are strong contenders for the IPL title this season.
The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals have witnessed quite mixed fortunes in the ongoing edition of IPL. Delhi Capitals registered an incredible 4-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in their first match of the IPL 2022 season but then they conceded a disappointing 17-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in their last outing.
Meanwhile, LSG is almost at its full strength and all they need to do is start piling up the wins. They have already won two out of their three matches so far. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock have been quite active on the field and their middle order has been firing where young talent like Ayush Badoni is the talk of the town. LSG defeated SRH by 12 runs in their last outing. LSG has all of their overseas players except Marcus Stoinis who will be in quarantine after having finished the game on the 5th of April in Pakistan.
With both teams set to battle it out today at DY Patil Stadium, here are the top 5 picks from Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals who are expected to steal the show.
1. David Warner
David Warner has returned to the Delhi franchise after completing his national team commitments. He is back with the team from where he started his IPL career. Warner would be itching to contribute as much as he can for Delhi this year.
The left-handed opening batsman has mustered a total of 5449 Runs in 150 IPL games with a strike rate of 139.96. He also played some fine knocks in Australia’s tour of Pakistan which could provide him the momentum in this game. DC has been playing with two or three overseas players so far. That means it could slot in David Warner and replace someone like Mandeep Singh in the batting lineup.
2. Prithvi Shaw
The dashing opener was on the rise scoring 38 in the opening game of the season against Mumbai Indians but struggled in the last match against Gujarat Titans. He still remains an important asset in the batting unit for Delhi Capitals. He was one of the top scorers for DC last year scoring 479 runs in 15 games with an average of 31.93.
Warner and Shaw opening the batting is a formidable pair and could provide a healthy start to the innings. Both Shaw and Dhawan stitched some brilliant partnerships last season for DC and now with Warner replacing Dhawan, they could form a perfect left-hand right-hand combination.
3. KL Rahul
KL Rahul is an excellent pick for the Top Batsman for LSG. He has scored 108 runs so far and is in good form. His recent form in the last three matches is 68, 40, 0. His 68 off 50 anchored the innings after most of the top-order batters failed to perform in the last match against SRH.
He remained one of the top three scorers in the last edition of IPL after amassing 626 runs in 13 matches with a brilliant average of 62.60. However, he will be a bit disappointed with his batting performance as he was not able to accelerate in the middle overs and would be looking to overcome the same with some extraordinary hitting in this contest.
4. Ravi Bishnoi
LSG’s bowling is headlined by Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi with support from Jason Holder, Krunal Pandya, and Andrew Tye. Avesh Khan picked up four wickets in the previous match and would hope to make an impact against his former IPL team but the real threat could be Ravi Bishnoi.
He is brilliant against the left-handers and will have three-four such targets while playing against DC. He is our pick for the Top Bowler for LSG. Even though he remained wicketless in the last match against Sunrisers he is expected to trouble some of the top DC batters in this contest with his leg-break googly. 5. Mustafizur Rahman
With dew playing a major role at the DY Patil Stadium, Kuldeep Yadav could also struggle if DC has to bowl second. Among this lot, we would certainly go with the experience of Mustafizur Rahman as our picks for the Top Bowler for the Delhi Capitals.
The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh has played four IPL seasons and has 41 IPL wickets to his name and he will be looking to add a few more wickets to his tally as the Delhi Capitals look to clinch the title. His performance stood out in the last outing against Gujarat Titans where he bagged three scalps while giving just 23 runs in his four overs.
