Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in a precarious position in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With 6 losses in 9 games, every game is a do-or-die encounter for them. They really need to pull up their socks and produce some stunning results if they are to qualify for the playoffs.
Now Jason Roy has instantly made an impact for KKR in the ongoing IPL 2023. Initially brought in as a replacement player, Roy was tried out when Rahmanullag Gurbaz had a niggle. And Roy grabbed onto the opportunity with both hands.
He so far has scores of 43, 61 and 56 and missed out the game against Gujarat Titans (GT) because of an injury. Rahmanullag Gurbaz too has hogged the limelight on his comeback game against GT, scoring 81 in just 39 balls.
In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why both Rahmanullag Gurbaz and Jason Roy should play for KKR:
1. The duo would make a deadly opening pair for KKR
One of the key areas where KKR haven’t really hit the strap is their opening combination. They have already made a myriad of changes to their opening department and Narayan Jagadeeshan has been struggling a lot with timing and poor.
Jagadeeshan has just scored 89 runs in 6 games and has a poor average of 14.83. Both Gurbaz and Roy could give KKR some solid starts that would take the pressure off the middle-order.
2. Both Roy and Gurbaz are in blistering form
Needless to say, both Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are two of the most important cogs in the wheels of KKR in this season. While Roy has scored 160 runs in 3 games and has a terrific average of 53.33, Gurbaz has scored 183 runs in 6 games and has been providing KKR with some fiery starts at the top.
If both of them play then KKR are sure to benefit from their extraordinary form in IPL 2023.
3. David Wiese isn’t bowling that much
As Namibian power-hitter David Wiese isn’t bowling that much for KKR and is coming in quite late to bat, KKR could think beyond him at the present moment. Both Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz could make a bigger impact and this is something which the KKR management should most certainly ponder about.
Plus they already have Andre Russell and Shardul Thakur who are quality all-rounders and can contribute with both the bat and the ball.
