Dinesh Karthik has been in poor form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The finisher hasn’t been able to give the finishes which the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team would have wanted of him and this has generated a lot of pressure on the famed trio of Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell to score the bulk of the runs for RCB.
After a stellar IPL 2022 season where he amassed 330 runs at a fantastic average of 55.00, Dinesh Karthik had a lot of expectations on him. He has failed to repose faith on the RCB management and we might see him not be a part of RCB’s remainder of the games or next season.
Apart from a couple of innings, Dinesh Karthik has been dismissed cheaply in the ongoing IPL. In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why RCB should drop Dinesh Karthik in IPL 2023:
1. Dinesh Karthik is in poor form
The veteran wicket-keeper batter has been in terrible form in the ongoing IPL 2023 and averages a paltry 12.73. He has mustered only 140 runs in this season of the IPL and has failed to score runs when the team is in a tough situation.
This naturally could lead to the axe of the 37-year-old cricketer from the RCB playing XI in the coming games.
2. RCB have Finn Allen in their ranks
One of the most talented and classy wicket-keeper batters in the form of Finn Allen is sitting in the side-lines for RCB. The Faf Du Plessis-led side could give Finn Allen a chance instead of Dinesh Karthik.
But in that case, their team combination could go for a toss. They would have to bench Michael Bracewell/Wanindu Hasaranga and make an Indian spinner play to make up for them.
3. Dinesh Karthik’s wicket-keeping has been below par
The 37-year-old cricketer’s wicket-keeping skills have been underwhelming in IPL 2023 and he has not been able to deliver the goods behind the stumps. Karthik has failed to choke the batters with his quick wicket-keeping and there have been several lapses from his end.
For instance, his fumble off the last ball in the RCB vs LSG game on 10th April 2023 costed RCB the game. In the game versus Delhi Capitals, he dropped Phil Salt.
There have been several instances of Dinesh Karthik not being the quickest and swiftest behind the stumps and RCB could drop him for this reason.
