IPL 2023: 3 Talking Points Of MI vs RCB Game

Date:

Mumbai Indians (MI) inflicted a tectonic shift in the points table of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as they jumped from the 8th position to the 3rd position after their 6-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The 5-time IPL champions have now moved to 12 points in 11 games and have a chance to eclipse past the chasing pack in the points table and move to 18 points, if they win all their remaining games.

RCB on the other hand, suffered their 2nd defeat on the trot and now all their matches become must-win games for them.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the MI vs RCB game that took place in Wankhede Stadium:

1. RCB’s lopsided bowling performance

One of the main reasons why Bangalore lost this game was their disappointing bowling performance. The RCB bowlers were clobbered all across the ground and every bowler had an economy above 10.

MI chased down the total with 21 balls remaining and this was a huge victory for them. Wanindu Hasaranga and Vyshak Vijay Kumar took 2 wickets each but they had an economy of 13.25 and 12.33 respectively.

2. Surya Kumar Yadav’s masterclass of an innings

Surya Kumar Yadav activated his beast mode as he fired on all cylinders and helped MI chase down the huge total with utmost ease. He scored 83 runs in just 35 balls and his innings was laced with 7 fours and 6 sixes.

He was eventually dismissed by Vijay Kumar but he had MI in pole position in the MI vs RCB game by then. SKY’s form bodes well not just for MI but also for India as the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be played later this year.

3. Glenn Maxwell and Faf Du Plessis shine for RCB

After losing star batter Virat Kohli early on in the innings, RCB were bailed out of troubled waters by Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. While the skipper of RCB scored 65 runs in just 41 balls, Maxwell scored 68 runs in 33 balls.

The duo batted with a sensational strike-rate and helped RCB post a total of 199 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Towards the end of the innings, Dinesh Karthik executed his job to perfection as he scored 30 runs in just 18 balls and powered RCB to a competitive total in this MI vs RCB game at the Wankhede Stadium.
