The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has already been marred by a lot of injuries.
Several top-flight cricketers have either been injured or have opted out of IPL.
Tall Indian speedster Prasidh Krishna too was ruled out of IPL 2023 as he was undergoing rehabilitation for a stress fracture.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) who finished as the runners-up in IPL 2022, have now named Sandeep Sharma as Krishna’s replacement.
Notably, veteran Indian pacer Sandeep Sharma was unsold in the IPL 2023 mini-auctions and he was extremely “shocked and disappointed”.
“Rajasthan Royals would like to confirm that their 26-year-old pacer Prasidh Krishna will miss the 2023 season of the IPL owing to a stress fracture surgery, and the rehabilitation process that will follow,” read an official statement from Rajasthan Royals that confirmed the unavailability of Prasidh Krishna.
“Prasidh has suffered a lumbar stress fracture and has been advised surgery which will mean he needs more time to recover and get back to competitive cricket.
We are doing everything possible to support and aid Prasidh’s recovery process,” it read further.
Sandeep Sharma has truckloads of experience under his belt while playing in the cash-rich IPL and has played 104 matches so far.
He has bagged 114 wickets in IPL and has a good economy of 7.77.
Last year, Sandeep Sharma plied his trade for Punjab Kings (PBKS) but got to play only 5 games. He failed to get his bearings right in the tournament and had only 2 scalps in his kitty.
His best season so far in the IPL was in IPL 2014 when he bagged 18 wickets in the tournament.
Punjab Kings meanwhile have named a new captain in the form of Shikhar Dhawan for IPL 2023.
Mayank Agarwal who was their previous captain was let go of before the IPL 2023 auctions.
Agarwal was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping sum of Rs. 8.25 crores.
“Fast bowler Sandeep Sharma will represent Rajasthan Royals this season after being signed as a replacement for Prasidh Krishna.
Picked for his base price of INR 50 lakh, Sandeep is one of the most senior bowlers in the tournament with over 100 wickets and 10 seasons of experience under his belt,” read a press release from Rajasthan Royals.
