IPL 2023: Sourav Ganguly’s Security Changed To Z Category In Kolkata

Date:

Former Indian cricketer and Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly’s security has been increased from Y Category to Z Category in Kolkata. Notably, Ganguly is presently serving as the Director of Cricket Operations of the Delhi franchise.

He is presently with the Delhi Capitals (DC) team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and is slated to come back to his home city on 21st May 2023. Following the expiry of his present Y Category security, an official confirmed that he will be receiving Z Category security in Kolkata.

“As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly’s security cordon to Z category,” said the official.

In the Y Category security programme, Sourav Ganguly had 3 officials along with him and 3 law enforcers guarding his house in the Behala region of Kolkata. Now, he will be having 8-10 police officials along with him.

As per reports, the representatives of the state secretariat had visited Sourav Ganguly’s house on Tuesday and also held a meeting with police officials of the local police station of Behala and the Lalbazar Police Station, which is the police headquarters of Kolkata Police.

“Mr Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Daredevils and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day,” the official confirmed.

Delhi Capitals are languishing at the bottom of the table of IPL 2023

The Delhi Capitals franchise has had a horrendous IPL 2023 season and they are presently rooted to the bottom of the table. David Warner’s Delhi team have already been eliminated from the playoff race and have just 2 games remaining in their campaign.

In 12 matches, Delhi could register only 4 wins and have lost 8 games. They can still be party-poopers and spoil the qualification chances of several other IPL teams.

The absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant because of a car accident in January 2023 and the misfiring of their batting department can be attributed as some of the main reasons as to why Delhi Capitals haven’t been able to perform well in the ongoing IPL 2023.

At the time of writing this article, Delhi Capitals are locking horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Punjab won the loss and have put Delhi to bat first at this picturesque stadium in Dharamshala.

Delhi have suffered a huge blow as their star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of this game. Prithvi Shaw has been seen opening the batting along side skipper David Warner.
