A major setback has been dealt to Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of their upcoming match on Saturday, April 19, against Delhi Capitals. Due to a hamstring injury, star all-arounder Washington Sundar will not play in the remaining IPL 2023 matches.
Sundar struggled to make an impact for the former IPL Champions as he had a poor start to the current season with both bat and ball. The latest match against Delhi Capitals was a turning point, though, as the 23-year-old performed for SRH with both bat and ball.
Against DC, Sundar took three wickets in one over, including the important one of David Warner. His other victims included Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan, and he finished with figures of 3/28 in his four overs.
The all-rounder then showed off his bat skills, scoring 24 runs in 15 deliveries while hitting three boundaries, almost bringing SRH to victory.
Sundar would not be part of the IPL 2023 remainder
As stated by SRH on their Twitter account, his campaign has now been halted owing to a hamstring injury. Sundar won’t be participating in the remaining games of the season, according to SRH.
“Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury,” Sunrisers Hyderabad posted on their social media account
Sundar has accumulated 60 runs and three wickets in the seven games he had played. Sundar wants to be a fantastic all-around player, but the team is willing to be patient and take their time with him, according to head coach Brian Lara after the team’s loss to CSK.
“Washington’s value to the team is both to bowl and bat, but we have got players who can play at the top positions. With Washington, yes, we want him to be that great all-rounder with both bat and ball, but I think it’s going to take time. Pressing the button and saying that this kid has potential and let’s get him up [the batting order], that’s pretty much pressing the panic button,”
