The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai witnessed a spectacular knock by Suryakumar Yadav in Match 57 of IPL 2023 between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.

The Mumbai Indians posted a mammoth total of 218/5 thanks to Suryakumar’s maiden IPL century of 103* off just 49 balls.

His innings were studded with 11 fours and six sixes, with the final four coming off the last ball of the innings. Akash Madhwal also played a crucial role for Mumbai Indians with 3/36.

Chasing 219, the Gujarat Titans got off to a disastrous start, losing three wickets in the first four overs. However, Rashid Khan’s aggressive innings of 79* off 32 balls, consisting of 10 sixes and three fours, kept the Titans in the game. Despite his efforts, the Titans fell short by 27 runs as they could only manage 191/8.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started the innings with a bang, scoring 61 runs in the Powerplay. However, Rashid Khan turned the game on its head by dismissing both the openers in the same over.

The middle order then took over, with Vishnu Vinod and Suryakumar Yadav adding 65 runs for the fourth wicket. After Vinod’s dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav went into overdrive mode, smashing three fours and a six off Mohit Sharma’s over and then hitting two fours and a six off Mohammad Shami’s over.

He needed 13 runs off the last over to reach his century, and he achieved the feat by hitting a four off the final delivery of the innings. The Gujarat Titans, who made one change to their starting XI, were always going to have a tough time chasing down such a big total.

Akash Madhwal struck in his first over to get the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, and Jason Behrendorff dismissed Hardik Pandya in the next over.

After a brief revival by Vijay Shankar, the Titans lost wickets at regular intervals, with Madhwal and Piyush Chawla doing most of the damage. However, Rashid Khan’s heroics kept the Titans in the game until the very end.

Overall, it was a superb performance by the Mumbai Indians, who are looking to defend their title. With this win, the Mumbai Indians move to the third of the points table, while the Gujarat Titans remain at the top.
