IPL 2024: 3 Batters To Watch Out For In The Powerplays

Date:

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is knocking at the door and the stakes and the excitement levels are quite high. IPL is like a festival in India and it brings everlasting joy and happiness into our lives.

The entire nation comes to a standstill and it plays like a binding force to unite families, friends and people together. Everyone watches their favourite players in action and support their favourite teams.

For teams to have a good start in a game, their powerplay game needs to be on point. The two batters who open the innings always have a pivotal role to play as they have to give a good start to an innings.

In this article, we take a look at 3 batters to watch out for in the powerplays in the upcoming IPL 2024:

1. Faf Du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Faf Du Plessis

The captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Faf Du Plessis, will be a key player to watch out for in the glamorous IPL 2024. He has the ability to smear the opposition all across the park and can leave a lasting impact with his blazing blade.

Du Plessis has always performed well in IPL and mustered 730 runs in IPL 2023 and 633 and 468 runs in IPL 2021 and IPL 2022 respectively. If Faf Du Plessis can get RCB off to a good start, it can be a nightmare for the opposition bowlers.

2. Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings)

Shikhar Dhawan

Out-of-favour Indian opener and the captain of Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan, has a lot to prove the entire world. After not being in contention of the Indian cricket team for a considerable period of time, Shikhar Dhawan will be seen in action in the Indian Premier League.

The swashbuckling southpaw has consistency up his sleeve and would be looking to guide Punjab Kings to their maiden IPL title. With 6617 runs under his belt in the IPL, Shikhar Dhawan is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the IPL.

3. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

Rohit Sharma

The former captain of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma will be playing as a pure batter in this IPL, without the load and pressure of captaincy on his back. Sharma can play a free-flowing brand of cricket and will be responsible for providing the fiery starts to the 5-time IPL champions.

We saw an aggressive brand of cricket from Rohit Sharma in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and we can expect him to repeat those heroics in this IPL too.
