Punjab Kings (PBKS), which was formerly known as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), has been one of the most under-performing teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Co-owned by Bollywood superstar, Preity Zinta, Punjab always come with a bag of expectations and they fail to live up to the billing, every single time.
Their most significant IPL sojourn was in 2014. Punjab had finished as runners-up after their narrow 3-wicket loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the high-voltage finals. Despite wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha’s stellar knock of 115* runs in 55 balls, Punjab failed to defend 200 runs.
In this franchise, there have been a few players who have represented them in this cash-rich league but have now faded into oblivion. We will be discussing about their stint at Punjab.
In this article, we take a look at 3 forgotten players of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL):
1. Parwinder Awana
Former Punjab bowler, Parwinder Awana, had called it quits from all forms of cricket in 2018. He had made his IPL debut in 2012 and had played 33 matches for Kings XI Punjab.
In these 33 matches, Awana had bagged 39 wickets and had a decent economy of 8.27. Parwinder Awana had a forgettable outing in the IPL 2014 finals as he leaked 43 runs in 21 balls.
2. Tanmay Srivastava
A member of Virat Kohli’s U-19 winning Indian team in 2008, Tanmay Srivastava was a part of the Punjab franchise from 2008-2010. He played 7 matches in total for them and managed to score only 8 runs.
He retired from all forms of cricket in 2020 and is another name who has left our minds and hearts. Tanmay Srivastava had played 90 first-class matches and had mustered 4,918 runs at an average of 34.39.
3. Gurkeerat Mann Singh
Having played for multiple franchises in IPL, Gurkeerat Singh Mann had the potential of becoming a mainstay of the Indian cricket team. He had played 3 ODIs for India but the lack of consistency paved his way outside the team.
Mann represented Kings XI Punjab from 2012 to 2017 and played 30 matches for the franchise. He amassed 342 runs and bagged 5 wickets for the team from Punjab.
