Mumbai Indians (MI) snapped their 4-match losing streak as they registered a 7-wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 55 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Surya Kumar Yadav was at his imperious best as SRH bowlers were taken to the cleaners in the 2nd innings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. There were several ebbs and flows in this match but ultimately it was Mumbai Indians who held their nerves and registered their 4th victory in IPL 2024.

Sunrisers Hyderabad desperately need to win 2 out of their remaining 3 matches to ensure a smooth qualification to the playoffs. Most certainly, Mumbai Indians acted as party-spoilers for Hyderabad.

1. Mumbai seek the perfect revenge

In Match 8 of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad had put up a dominant show at their home turf at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Pat Cummins and co. had scored 277 runs and it is the highest total in the history of IPL.

But Mumbai inflicted a sweet revenge on their Hyderabadi counterparts as they coasted to a 7-wicket victory on 6th May 2024, making it 1-1 in IPL 2024 between these two sides.

2. Surya Kumar Yadav’s incredible century

At a time when Mumbai Indians was tottering at 31/3 with Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir back in the pavilion, Surya Kumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played exceedingly well and transferred the pressure to the SRH bowlers.

Surya Kumar Yadav showcased a masterful innings as he smashed 102* runs in this game and scored his 2nd IPL hundred. He also became the 2nd Mumbai Indians player to score multiple IPL hundreds after Rohit Sharma, who also has 2 IPL hundreds.

3. Hardik Pandya’s exceptional bowling performance

Hardik Pandya knows how to put a lid on the mouth of his naysayers. In the past as well, the skipper of Mumbai Indians has shown his mental resolve and grit. And with the ball on 6th May 2024, Hardik Pandya was breathing fire.

He bagged the wickets of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Marco Jansen and Shahbaz Ahmed and helped Mumbai Indians restrict the Hyderabad side to 173 runs. It was a stark contrast from the earlier fixture between these two sides when it was a plain-and-simple run-fest.
