Virat Kohli continued his splendid form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he smashed his highest-ever T20 score of 113* runs in 72 deliveries at the Sawai Mann Singh Stadium in Jaipur.
Despite his century in the 1st innings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had to end up being on the losing side as Jos Buttler’s brilliance overshadowed Virat Kohli’s fabulous innings, away from home.
Virat Kohli was one of the key reasons why RCB could cross the 180-run mark as they powered their innings to a total of 183 runs. Glenn Maxwell once again failed to fire on all cylinders as he was dismissed for a paltry score of 1(3). The likes of Cameron Green and Saurav Chauhan too failed to leave a mark as RCB managed to score 183 runs.
Now during this innings, Virat Kohli shattered several records, as he always does while batting. The former skipper of RCB became the 1st batter in the history of IPL to score 7500+ runs.
Kohli’s tally of runs stands at 7579 runs and has already smashed 8 hundreds in this tournament.
But there was another unwanted record which Virat Kohli inadvertently became a part of. Virat Kohli’s century on 6th April 2024 in 67 balls became the joint-slowest hundred in the IPL.
The other cricketer to have scored a century in 67 balls in the IPL is Manish Pandey, when he scored a century while plying his trade for RCB in IPL 2009. Notably, this was the first-ever century by an Indian in this tournament.
The next list of cricketers in this unwanted list are Sachin Tendulkar, Jos Buttler and David Warner, who have scored hundreds in the IPL in 66 balls.
RCB are presently in the 8th position in the points table
RCB’s fortunes in IPL 2024 are in the wrong direction as they have lost 4 games already. They have played 5 matches so far and have lost 4 of them, having won a solitary game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 25th March 2024 by 4 wickets.
If RCB are to be contenders of the IPL this edition, they need to pull up their socks and put on their A-game in the remainder of their matches.
RCB next cross swords with Mumbai Indians (MI) on 11th April at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
