Dwayne Bravo has officially joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
This announcement comes shortly after Bravo announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on September 27, 2024, due to a groin injury that cut short his participation in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.
Transition from CSK to KKR
Bravo’s appointment marks a significant shift in his career, as he transitions from a long-standing association with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he served both as a player and a bowling coach.
Over his 13 years with CSK, Bravo won four IPL titles and became known for his exceptional skills, particularly in death bowling. He was also instrumental in CSK’s success in the 2023 season, contributing to their championship victory.
His new role at KKR comes as the franchise seeks to fill the void left by Gautam Gambhir, who recently took on the role of head coach for the Indian national team after leading KKR to their third IPL title in 2024.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed enthusiasm about Bravo’s addition, highlighting his extensive experience and competitive spirit as valuable assets for the team.
Bravo’s Legacy and Future Role
Dwayne Bravo is celebrated as one of the greatest T20 cricketers, holding the record for the most wickets in T20 history with 631 scalps across various formats and leagues.
His experience extends beyond IPL, having captained and played for Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, further solidifying his connection to the Knight Riders franchise family.
In his new role, Bravo will also oversee operations across other Knight Riders franchises, including those in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA and ILT20 in the UAE.
Bravo noted his respect for KKR’s management and culture, describing it as a “special place” conducive to mentoring and developing future talents.
His deep understanding of T20 cricket dynamics is expected to benefit not only KKR but also its affiliated teams globally.
