Omkar Salvi Joins RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has officially announced the appointment of Omkar Salvi as their new men’s bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

This strategic move comes as RCB aims to enhance their bowling attack and improve their chances of clinching their first IPL title, a goal that has eluded the franchise since its inception in 2008.

Who is Omkar Salvi?

Omkar Salvi, a 46-year-old former cricketer, has made a significant impact in the Indian domestic cricket circuit as a coach.

Most recently, he served as the head coach of the Mumbai senior men’s team, leading them to victory in both the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup during the 2023-24 season.

Under his guidance, Mumbai secured their first Ranji Trophy title in eight years, marking a significant achievement in his coaching career.

Salvi’s coaching journey includes a previous stint as the assistant bowling coach with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he contributed to their success in winning the IPL title in 2024.

His experience and success at various levels have made him a respected figure in coaching circles, particularly known for his ability to develop fast bowlers.

RCB’s Expectations

RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed enthusiasm about Salvi’s appointment, stating that his extensive experience and technical expertise will be invaluable to the team.

Bobat emphasized that Salvi’s local knowledge and leadership qualities are expected to significantly enhance RCB’s bowling unit. “We’re thrilled to welcome Omkar Salvi as RCB’s Bowling Coach. His proven success at both domestic and IPL levels makes him the perfect fit for our coaching team,” Bobat remarked.

Salvi is set to join RCB after fulfilling his commitments with Mumbai, which include overseeing their campaign in the ongoing domestic season. He is expected to start working with RCB shortly after the conclusion of these duties in March 2025.

Immediate Goals

Upon his appointment, Salvi outlined his primary objectives for the upcoming season. He aims to refine the skills of RCB’s bowlers to ensure they can deliver match-winning performances consistently.

Salvi also highlighted his desire to make M. Chinnaswamy Stadium a fortress for RCB, leveraging home advantage effectively during matches.

Additionally, Salvi expressed excitement about reuniting with Dinesh Karthik, who was appointed as RCB’s batting coach earlier this year.

The two have previously collaborated at KKR, and Salvi looks forward to building a cohesive team environment that can elevate RCB’s performance on the field.
