LSG Captaincy

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) preparing for the IPL 2025 season. Ahead of the IPL auction 2025, they face a critical decision in selecting a new captain following the release of KL Rahul.

With the IPL mega auction set for November 24-25, LSG is keen on building a competitive squad around their retained core.

Here are three players who could potentially lead LSG in the upcoming season.

1. Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran stands out as a prime candidate for the captaincy due to his explosive batting and leadership experience.

Retained as LSG’s highest-paid player, Pooran has been an integral part of the team since joining in IPL 2023, accumulating 857 runs in 29 matches, including an impressive 499 runs last season at a strike rate of 178.21.

His ability to perform under pressure and his experience in international cricket make him a natural leader.

Pooran has previously captained the West Indies team, showcasing his capability to manage team dynamics effectively.

With his strong performance and rapport with teammates, he could be the ideal choice to lead LSG into a new era.

2. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler, the current England T20I captain, is another top contender for LSG’s captaincy.

After being released by Rajasthan Royals, he is expected to attract significant interest during the auction. Josh Buttler extensive captaincy experience and explosive batting make him an attractive option for any franchise.

Known for his aggressive style and ability to change games single-handedly, Buttler could bring both leadership and firepower to LSG’s lineup.

However, with multiple teams likely vying for his signature, LSG may need to engage in a bidding war to secure his services, with expectations that he could command around INR 15 Crore.

3. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer’s recent release from Kolkata Knight Riders has opened up opportunities for other franchises, including LSG.

Iyer led KKR to their IPL 2024 title and has established himself as a reliable batsman with 3,127 runs in 116 IPL matches.

His leadership skills were evident during his tenure with KKR, where he demonstrated strategic acumen and the ability to motivate players.

With a base price of INR 2 Crore, Iyer is likely to attract considerable interest from multiple teams, but securing him could come at a higher cost—potentially exceeding INR 18 Crore in the auction.

His experience and success as a captain make him a strong candidate to step into KL Rahul’s shoes.
