IPL 2025 Top 3 Costly Buys

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has seen several high-profile acquisitions, with franchises investing heavily in players expected to deliver match-winning performances.

However, a few of these costly signings have struggled to justify their hefty price tags with underwhelming displays.

Here’s an analysis of the top three expensive buys who have disappointed so far:

1. Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) – ₹27 Crore

Rishabh Pant made headlines when he became the most expensive player in IPL history, fetching a staggering ₹27 crore from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

However, his performance has been far from impressive. In the first three matches of IPL 2025, Pant has managed to score only 17 runs, with scores of 0, 15, and 2.

His latest outing against Punjab Kings saw him dismissed for just 2 runs, leading to widespread criticism from fans who expected more from their captain.

Pant’s struggles have raised questions about whether he can justify his hefty price tag.

Despite leading LSG to a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, his lack of form with the bat remains a pressing issue that the franchise needs to address quickly.

Fans are frustrated and are starting to label him as “overpriced,” given his inability to deliver in crucial moments.

2. Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders) – ₹23.75 Crore

Venkatesh Iyer was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹23.75 crore, but his performance so far has been disappointing.

In his first two matches of IPL 2025, he has only scored 6 runs with an average of just 3.00.

Known for his explosive batting and all-round capabilities, Iyer’s struggles at the crease have been surprising given his previous performances in earlier seasons.

Despite being touted as a potential match-winner for KKR, Iyer needs to quickly find his form if he hopes to justify his high price tag and contribute meaningfully to his team’s success this season.

3. Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals) – ₹12.5 Crore

Rajasthan Royals invested ₹12.5 crore to bring back English pacer Jofra Archer, hoping he would spearhead their bowling attack.

Unfortunately, Archer has endured a torrid start to the season. In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he recorded the worst bowling figures in IPL history, conceding 76 runs without taking a wicket in his four-over spell.

This performance surpassed the previous record for the most expensive bowling figures, casting doubts over his current form and fitness.
