Suyash Sharma has been added to the spin bowling unit of the Kolkata Knight Riders, which already has Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine as mystery spinners.

With his three-wicket haul on IPL debut, the star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore batting order was shaken by the 19-year-old spinner from Delhi.

On Thursday night at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he claimed three key targets in big hitter Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, and tail-ender Karn Sharma as KKR crushed RCB by 81 runs.

Suyash Sharma blasted in IPL debut

The 19-year-old leg-spin KKR sensation Suyash Sharma made a name for himself at Eden Gardens in Kolkata during the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023). The teenage phenom made his KKR debut against the RCB, making an enduring impression on the match.

Suyash took up Venkatesh Iyer’s role as an Impact Player and seized the chance to display his talents on the big stage. Sharma astonished onlookers in his first-ever professional match with a stunning 3 for 18, helping KKR easily defeat RCB by 81 runs.

He claimed Karn Sharma after eliminating Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik in one over of his stint, finishing with a 3 for 30 stat line. Chandrakant Pandit, the head coach of KKR, praised Suyash for his outstanding performance.

Who is Suyash Sharma?

Suyash is a right-arm leg spinner who is from Delhi. Suyash began his cricket career by competing in Delhi club competitions.

The young player was identified by Chandrakant Pandit’s KKR team and given a contract for the IPL 2023 after the promising prospect impressed during the tryouts. Suyash hasn’t participated in any List A, FC, or T20 games prior to his encounter against the RCB, which is interesting.

Suyash Sharma during IPL 2023 auction

KKR purchased Suyash during IPL 2023 auction in December of last year for Rs 20 Lakh. He was called in as the impact player after Venkatesh Iyer was replaced but was not included in the starting XI.

Suyash, a young spinner for KKR, impressed KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit with his “fighting attitude,” stating it was very challenging for opposition batters to pick the leg spinner.

“We have seen him (Suyash) at trial matches. He is very quick in the air, and it’s very tough to pick him. It’s just the inexperience; but he showed a fighting attitude,” said Pandit after the match.

“It’s a good win. The boys have shown the character. Looking at the initial stage, having lost wickets, and coming back to get 200-plus. We just expected the pitch to help the spinners. But you require enough runs. Shardul and Rinku Singh (46 off 33) counter-attacked the opposition,” added Pandit.
