‘Koi Farak Nahi Padta’: Mohammed Shami Unfazed By Hardik Pandya’s Departure From Gujarat Titans

Date:

In a surprising turn of events, Hardik Pandya’s departure from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of IPL 2024 has raised eyebrows across the cricketing fraternity.

However, the franchise’s experienced pacer, Mohammed Shami, seems untroubled, expressing his confidence that Pandya’s exit won’t hinder the team’s success in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Hardik Pandya, who played a pivotal role in GT’s victory in IPL 2022 and their runner-up finish in IPL 2023, shocked fans and experts both by making a controversial move back to his former team, Mumbai Indians (MI).

The transfer reportedly involved a significant financial transaction, with MI paying INR 15 crores plus an undisclosed transfer fee to acquire Pandya’s services.

Despite the high-profile nature of Pandya’s departure, Shami remains pragmatic about the situation.

In an exclusive statement to Sports24, he said, “Kisi ko kisi ke jaane se koi farak nahi padta. (No one cares about anyone (Hardik Pandya) leaving the franchise).”

Shami emphasised that cricket is dynamic, and players are not bound to a particular franchise for a lifetime.

Hardik Pandya served as the captain for GT, leading the team to the IPL final twice and securing the coveted title once.

Shami acknowledged Pandya’s significant contributions to the franchise but underscored the transient nature of player alliances in T20 cricket.

He maintained that Gujarat Titans would continue their journey with determination, irrespective of Pandya’s absence.

In response to Pandya’s departure, Gujarat Titans swiftly appointed the talented Indian opener, Shubman Gill, as the new captain.

The franchise also bolstered its squad during the IPL 2024 mini-auction, signaling its commitment to maintaining competitiveness in the upcoming season.

Shami further noted that changing priorities and player movements are inherent aspects of the IPL landscape.

“Shubman Gill will also become experienced, and there is a possibility of him playing for another franchise in the future. You can’t stop anyone as it is part and parcel of the game,” Shami added.

As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the start of IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, are gearing up for the challenges ahead, seemingly undeterred by the unexpected departure of their former skipper, Hardik Pandya.
