In a significant setback for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), their star fast bowler Mayank Yadav is expected to miss the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

The 22-year-old speedster, known for his ability to consistently clock speeds over 150 km/h, is currently recovering from a lumbar stress injury at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Background and Injury

Mayank Yadav’s rise to prominence began in IPL 2024, where he made a remarkable impact despite playing only four matches.

His performances earned him back-to-back Player of the Match awards in his first two games against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, his season was cut short due to a lingering side strain, and during his rehabilitation, he picked up another injury.

This sequence of injuries continued when he received an India call-up for the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024, only to suffer another setback after the series.

Impact on LSG

LSG had retained Mayank Yadav for Rs 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, reflecting his significant value to the team.

His absence from the first half of the season is a major blow, as LSG relies heavily on his pace and accuracy to bolster their bowling attack.

The team will need to strategize without him, potentially relying on other bowlers to fill the gap.

Rehabilitation and Potential Return

Mayank has recently resumed bowling as part of his rehabilitation process, but there is no firm date set for his return to action.

The BCCI and LSG are cautious about rushing him back, ensuring he meets all fitness parameters before rejoining the team. If he progresses well, he could feature in the latter half of the IPL 2025 season.

LSG’s Season Ahead

LSG will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam under the new captaincy of Rishabh Pant.

Without Mayank Yadav, the team will face challenges in their bowling lineup, but they will look to other players to step up and fill the void.
