MI, the defending champions came in the action with a precise plan to strengthen their bowling attack that was heavily dependent on Jasprit Bumrah. So, they began working on their strategy from the trade window. They let their two important players go with the likes of Mayank Marakande and Siddhesh Lad. However, in return, they got three players in the name of Trent Boult (fast-bowler), Dhawal Kulkarni (fast-bowler), and Sherfane Rutherford (all-rounder).
It looked like MI will now go all-out in IPL 2020 auction and rope some big batsman in their side. But, that was not the case. They splashed INR 8 Crores in order to grab the services of Nathan Coulter Nile. They also got Chris Lynn, the dashing opener at a bargain price for INR 2 Crores. Meanwhile, they added a couple of domestic names as well like Saurabh Tiwary (batsman) for Rs 50 lakh, Digvijay Deshmukh (all-rounder) for Rs 20 lakh, Prince Balwant Rai Singh (all-rounder) for Rs 20 lakh, and Mohsin Khan (bowler) for Rs 20 lakh.

But, just before the commencement of the tournament, they suffered a big setback. MI’s senior bowler Lasith Malinga pulled out of IPL 2020 due to some personal reasons.
