Lucknow SuperGiants and Chennai Super Kings were scheduled to face each other in the 45th match of TATA IPL 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Unfortunately, the rain had other plans as the match was abandoned after 19.2 overs bowled in the first innings. The persistent rains made sure that the match didn’t continue, and both teams had to settle for a point each.
Lucknow Super Giants had a tough start, losing five wickets for just 44 runs in the first 10 overs. However, Ayush Badoni (59* off 33) played a brilliant inning under pressure and led the home team’s revival.
He received some support from Nicholas Pooran (20 off 31) and K Gowtham (8 off 6), but it was Badoni’s heroics that helped LSG reach a respectable score of 125/7.
For CSK, Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana all picked up two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket.
CSK bowlers started off well and didn’t give much room to the LSG openers. Moeen Ali picked up the first wicket, dismissing Kyle Mayers (14 off 17) caught at long off.
Maheesh Theekshana then bowled a fantastic delivery to get rid of Manan Vohra (10 off 11). Krunal Pandya was caught at first slip by Ajinkya Rahane off Theekshana’s bowling.
Marcus Stoinis was cleaned up by Ravindra Jadeja (6 off 4), and Karan Sharma was dismissed by Moeen Ali (9 off 16) with a brilliant caught and bowled. LSG were struggling at 44/5 at the halfway mark.
Ayush Badoni then took charge and started hitting boundaries, scoring a six-over deep mid-wicket in the 15th over. He then teamed up with Nicholas Pooran and took ten runs off the next over.
Badoni continued his brilliant form and scored 15 runs in the 16th over against Theekshana, including a six and a four. Pooran was dismissed by Pathirana (20 off 31), and K Gowtham (8 off 6) fell to Pathirana in the final over.
Badoni remained unbeaten on 59 off 33 balls, and LSG managed to score 125/7 from 19.2 overs. However, the rains didn’t stop, and the match had to be abandoned.
Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow SuperGiants shared a point each, and both teams will have to wait for their next encounter to secure a win.
