Following his impressive performances in domestic cricket, particularly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Patidar has expressed his eagerness to lead RCB if given the opportunity.

Recent Performance and Leadership

Patidar’s rise in the ranks can be attributed to his stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he played a pivotal role in guiding Madhya Pradesh to the finals for the first time in 13 years.

He scored 347 runs in nine matches at an impressive strike rate of 182.6, including a standout innings of 66 not out off 29 balls in the semi-finals against Mumbai.

His leadership has been instrumental, showcasing his ability to inspire and manage a team effectively.

“Of course, if I get an opportunity to lead RCB, that is what I am there for, and I will be happy,” he remarked, emphasizing his readiness to embrace this challenge.

He credited his growth as a leader to his coach, Chandrakant Pandit, acknowledging that he has learned valuable tactics and strategies under his guidance.

RCB’s Captaincy Situation

With RCB releasing their previous captain Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchise is now on the lookout for a new leader.

Patidar was retained by RCB for a hefty sum of INR 11 crore, reflecting the franchise’s confidence in his abilities.

While there are other names being discussed for the captaincy, including former captain Virat Kohli and new signings like Phil Salt and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Patidar’s recent form and leadership experience position him as a strong candidate.

Fan and Franchise Expectations

Fans have been vocal about their support for Patidar taking up the captaincy role, especially considering his impactful performances and leadership qualities demonstrated in domestic tournaments.

His retention by RCB has boosted his confidence, and he is keen on contributing significantly to the team’s success.
