Former SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain, David Warner, revealed that the franchise has blocked him on two major social media platforms – Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter).
The revelation came to light as Warner attempted to share a story on his social media handles regarding the acquisition of Travis Head by SRH during the IPL 2024 auction.
Warner, who played a pivotal role for SRH both as a premier batter and captain, took to social media to share screenshots confirming the block, shedding light on the apparent strains in his relationship with the Hyderabad-based team.
The screenshots displayed that Warner’s accounts were blocked from re-sharing stories and posts from the SRH account.
The Australian opener, a key figure for SRH since his selection in the 2014 edition, led the team to an IPL trophy in 2016, making him the only captain to achieve this feat for the franchise.
However, Warner’s journey with SRH has been tumultuous, especially in the aftermath of the infamous sandpaper-gate scandal. Despite being reinstated as captain in 2020, Warner was stripped of the leadership role in 2021.
The 2022 season witnessed a significant chapter in Warner’s IPL career as SRH chose not to retain him, leading to his move to Delhi Capitals. In the absence of the injured Rishabh Pant, Warner captained the Capitals, adding another layer of intrigue to his post-SRH journey.
The social media revelation adds a new dimension to the complexities of Warner’s relationship with SRH and raises questions about the nature of the rift between the player and the franchise.
As cricket enthusiasts grapple with the surprising turn of events, it remains to be seen whether there will be further clarification or reconciliation between Warner and SRH.
Amid this social media drama, SRH made headlines during the IPL 2024 auction by securing Australia captain Pat Cummins for a staggering INR 20.5 crores.
However, the blockbuster moment was short-lived as Kolkata Knight Riders surpassed this record by securing Cummins’ compatriot and bowling partner, Mitchell Starc, for an astronomical INR 24.75 crores.
