“We were outplayed, no excuses from us,” says Ricky Ponting after DC lost to SRH

Delhi Capitals suffered their first defeat in IPL 2020 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They lost the game by a margin of 15 runs. And, Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals accepted the fact his side was outplayed by SRH on all fronts. Even, Shreyas Iyer also accepted that SRH performed was a better side in the game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed 163 runs in stipulated 20 overs. David Warner (45 runs), Kane Williamson (41 runs), and Jonny Bairstow (53 runs) contributed well with the bat. Coming onto the chase, previous game hero Prithvi Shaw was dismissed quite early in the game. Except for Shikhar Dhawan, other batsmen failed to score well with the bat. The former scored finished as the top-scorer for DC with 34 runs.

Ricky Ponting accepts that Delhi Capitals was “outplayed” by SRH

After DC suffered defeat by 15-runs, Ricky Ponting looked vocal about his team’s poor performance. He said that was outclassed by SRH in all departments of the game.

“I don’t think the conditions were that different. The grounds are bigger, there are bigger square boundaries here. (But) At the end of the day, we were just outplayed by Sunrisers Hyderabad,” Ponting said at the post-match press conference.

Ponting accepted that his side didn’t perform at their best. He also added that SRH had some good partnerships with top-order batsmen taking the charge in their hands. And, this made a big difference in the end.

“We were a little bit off from our absolute best. SRH had good top-order partnerships and they rotated the strike well, and a few of them made big scores. So, that was the difference in the game. When we look back now, we were only 15 runs away at the end of the game. So, you can break that down in any way that you want,” the Australian great added.

DC is currently in 2nd position in the league table with four points after Rajasthan Royals. They will now take the field against Kolkata Knight Riders on October 3. N
