Jofra Archer’s name set up a big bidding war between the franchises during this year’s IPL 2022 mega-auction. Although, it was known to every franchise that he will not play in the 15th edition. But this didn’t change the mindset of the teams. Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals fought hard to get his signature. In the end, five-time IPL winner MI managed to get their hands on the star pacer.
Jofra Archer made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals. He took 46 wickets in 35 games and hogged the spotlight for his quick bowling. Ahead of IPL 2022 mega-auction. Royals released Archer into the auction pool. But, they got engaged in a bidding war with Mumbai Indians till INR 5 Crores. Afterward, SRH also tried their best but they also ended up on the losing end as MI signed English pacer for INR 8 Crores.
Jofra Archer talks about his reaction post IPL 2022 mega-auction
In a freewheeling conversation, Jofra Archer said that the moment he saw a call from a number starting with +91 made him aware of what could have happened in the auction. He added that it is an honor to be part of such a magnificent setup.
“My phone started to go off. Back-to-back messages. I think some guys from the Mumbai team ended up calling me. When I saw calls from +91, I knew exactly what had happened. I was really excited as it is a great franchise. Really excited to get started and start winning some games and trophies,” Jofra said.
Archer mentioned that he had a great time playing for Rajasthan Royals. But, now it was time to move on and accept some new challenges in the cash-rich league.
“The change of team and atmosphere is really good because then you get to challenge yourself again because sometimes it is okay to operate in your comfort zone. But once you have gone away and begun to perform again in a different team, then you can rate yourself.
“It is like when Ronaldo left, many people said that he wasn’t going to be good outside of Spain. But he has proved himself wherever he has gone now and no one can doubt his skills. So, it is the same mindset,” said Jofra.
