Karun Nair has played a few famous knocks for India and IPL franchises in the past. But, he has still not managed to cement his place as one of the best in the shorter format. He has been struggling to perform with consistency and now he has revealed the reason why he has failed in attaining a high degree of success.

Karun Nair made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals and scored 330 runs in his debut season. But, since then he has witnessed a big dip in his batting form. He has played for different franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Punjab Kings. However, he has not justified his position in any of the teams.

I’ve never been the kind of main player in a team in T20- Karun Nair says

This time in IPL 2022 he will be spotted playing for the Royals once again. With a few days left in the tournament to begin, Nair hopes for a better stint with the pink army.

In an interview, Nair said that he has never been looked down as one of the main players in the team. As per him, whenever he scored runs in a game then there is some other batsman, who performs better than him in the same game.

“In my opinion, the reason behind that is that I’ve never been the kind of main player in a team in T20 cricket. If you see, whenever I score runs, there’s someone else who scores better in the same match (laughs),” Nair said in a press release issued by his IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals.

Nair mentioned that he tries to focus on his game and not other things that happen around him. He added that in the shorter format he has been given several different roles in different teams and Nair feels this has gone against him as a batsman.

“…But I’m not really bothered about that at all — all I care about and why I play matches is to help the team win. On a more serious note, why people don’t see me as a T20 specialist is because I’ve been asked to play a different kind of roles over the years, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But I’m hoping to have a great season with the Royals and just focus on whatever I’m told to do,” Nair added.

Royals will open their tournament campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 29th March. Let’s see if Karun Nair can make the best out of IPL 2022 or not.
