Champions Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 – Team Analysis

Mumbai Indians will be raring to go in the 2020 season and replicate their 2019 season’s performance. It was the Mumbai Indians; the Rohit Sharma led side that lifted the prestigious 12th season of the Indian Premier League in 2019. It was their 4th honor, and they are the only Team to have won the coveted title four times.

Mumbai Indians already had a settled unit and added some players into their fold during the IP Auction in Kolkata on December 19 2019. They are already a force to reckon with, and they are now eyeing for their 5th crown in 2020.

At the IPL Auction, the key picks for the MI were the inclusion of Nathan Coulter-Nile, the Australian fast bowler. He was given a deal for a big Rs.8 crore. He had missed the last two seasons owing to injuries, and he had done well for KKR in 2017.

The Former destructive opener of KKR, Chris Lynn was also brought in by the Team for Rs.2 crore. Lynn brings to the table experience and his natural ability to slog the ball from the word ‘Go’

The IPL Auction in 2019 also saw got some players such as Sourabh Tiwary, Price Balwant Rai, Digvijay Deshmukh and Mohsin Khan being bought.

The core side of MI is super strong, and it is their strength. Even Trent Boult and Dhawal Kulkarni were brought to make it a squad that has no leaks at all.

All these make MI the most powerful and settled units that have been in the habit of winnings. The Team set up, sign ups during the auction, and their preparation makes them an invincible side.

Mumbai Indians can enjoy the luxury of having a settled batting force

With Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock at the helm of affairs in the opening, the Team looks set at the top. They are someone that the Team will rely on to give them powerful starts, especially during the power plays.

If the need is, even Chris Lynn is an added advantage to help the Team at the top or wherever the side wants him to play. Lynn has been scoring most of this runs as an opener for the Kolkata Knight Riders previously.

On the other hand, Surya Kumar Yadav, in the middle order and Ishan Kishan behind the gloves (when de Cock is not playing) can help the Team get going. Aditya Tare is another experienced chap that can chip in for MI when needed.

Mumbai Indians have a class above the rest bowling department

When it comes to the bowling department of Mumbai Indians, only a few sides can match the ranks and the quality that the bowling attack of the Team brings to the table.

Mumbai has always relied heavily on its pace and the upcoming season will be no different. Jasprit Bumrah is the man Rohit Sharma goes to being the pace spearheads, and he has in him to bowl tight spells and win your matches.

Mumbai Indians bowling

His ability to contain runs when most needed during the death overs, and especially when MI is defending a total is unquestionable.

With Lasith Malinga as his partner, the duo may draw first blood perfectly. Trent Boult is another top talent that the Team can go to break partnerships.

Mitchell McClenaghan, along with Dhawal Kulkarni and Coulter-Nile, also bring the experience that can be tested accordingly in a match situation.

What’s more, players like Rutherford and Hardik Pandya, being all-rounders can also pitch in with 4 overs in between.

What’s more, the 21-year-old new recruit, Digvijay Deshmukh, is also a pacer.

The same can’t be said about the spin department of the Mumbai Indians, and that has been the story of this Team for years now.

Krunal can be a vital player, and even Rahul Chahar should also get a huge role after Mankande was released. Anukool Roy, a slow left-arm orthodox may also support from the bench, along with Jayant. Roy has featured only in a single IPL game so far.

Do Mumbai Indians have any weak points to bother about?

As things stand today, Mumbai Indians barely have any weakness to mention. They have a quality batting composition, and they rely on pace alternatives, quality all-rounders and other experienced players. Their bench strength is also strong.

The only loop that is visible easily is their spin department – it would have been an incredible Team had the management given a thought on this.

Our verdict – Mumbai Indians can defend their title in IPL 2020

Mumbai Indians looks super balanced, they also mingle very well, and everything looks invincible. With a wide variety of fast bowlers, you can’t ask for a better pace attack.

Based on the ground situations, weather and form, they can easily rotate them and give everyone a hand to prove their skills. The spin department, despite not having any reliable name, can work wonders when it has its day.

Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Cock and Chris Lynn are three superstars that are destined to be the crux of the playing XI. Other important players in the Mumbai Indians side are of course Pandya brothers – Hardik and Krunal Pandya.

On their days, they can smash any opposition. Krunal can be an effective spin bowler, and Hardik has his own pace. The big hitting prowess of Hardik Pandya is known to all, and even he has an idea about his plus. He is known to go bang-bang during the last few overs and chase any target and set a higher one while batting first.

There is another player that we have not given much space here, and he is Kieron Pollard – he has always proved his worth in the Team. Along with Rohit Sharma, he has been one of the oldest members of the Mumbai Indians Team.

The Team swears by his hard-hitting batting abilities, and when he is batting with Hardik, they have in them to set the stadium on fire.

What’s more, Pollard’s bowling can also be another thing that can be tried to get a breakthrough when the top bowlers have been whacked for runs.

If every player in the Mumbai Indians plays to their potential, then nothing can stop MI from clinching their 5th IPL title.
