2017-18 Big Bash League (BBL) champions Adelaide Strikers begin their BBL 2022-23 campaign with a bang. They registered a thumping 51-run victory over 3-time BBL champions Sydney Sixers.
The Peter Siddle-led side batted first and put up 184 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets. Opening batter Matt Short top-scorer for the Adelaide Strikers with a stupendous knock of 84 (53). BBL’s leading run-getter Chris Lynn played a solid knock of 41 (34) and had a decent strike rate of 120.59.
BBL’s leading wicket-taker Sean Abbott was the pick of the bowlers for Sydney Sixers as he bagged 3 wickets in the game. His scalps included Adam Hose, Colin de Grandhomme, and Rashid Khan.
Chasing an imposing total of 185, the Sixers never really got going in the run-chase. Their run-chase kept getting impeded by wickets and they ended up with just 133 runs on the board.
Henry Thornton bagged 4 wickets for Adelaide Strikers
Jordan Silk top-scored with a knock of 36 runs and his innings were laced with 5 fours. Opening batter and wicket-keeper Josh Philippe scored 26 runs in 23 balls. Henry Thornton was the bowler who bowled exceedingly well for the Adelaide Strikers. Thornton took 4 wickets and conceded just 20 runs in his 4 overs.
Wily spinner Rashid Khan bagged 3 wickets in the game and spun the game in favor of the 2017-18 BBL champions. This was a perfect start for Peter Siddle and co. as the huge margin of runs would boost their run rate as well.
Adelaide Strikers next lock horns with Sydney Thunder on 16th December 2022. On the other hand, Sydney Sixers will be facing Perth Scorchers in their next game on 17th December 2022. Moises Henriques’s side would be hoping to put up a better show in the next game and open their account in the 2022-23 season of the Big Bash League.
