Taliban, the newly formed government in Afghanistan has confirmed that they will not be supporting women’s cricket in the country. And, this comes as bad news for the Afghanistan cricket team, who were set to play a historic Test match against Australia.

Australia has kept a condition that if Afghanistan will not support women’s cricket then they will be forced to take a stern step by stepping out of the game. In the latest statement released, the Taliban, who formed the government in Afghanistan recently, asserted that they will mostly not allow women’s cricket in the country. As per them, they will face a situation where their face and body will not be covered and it is against their religion Islam.

Australia likely back out from hosting Afghanistan for a Test match

“I don’t think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket. In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this.”

“Our vision for cricket is that it is a sport for all and we support the game unequivocally for women at every level,” the statement said.

In the current situation, Cricket Australia will have a chance to step back from hosting Afghanistan for a historic Test that was scheduled to be played in Hobart.

“If recent media reports that women’s cricket will not be supported in Afghanistan are substantiated, Cricket Australia would have no alternative but to not host Afghanistan for the proposed Test Match due to be played in Hobart. We thank the Australian and Tasmanian Governments for their support on this important issue.”
