IPL 2022 mega-auction is around the corner and all the franchises are ready to fill up their squads for the upcoming edition. A total of 300 Indian cricketers and 220 overseas players are set to go under the hammer in search of some big-money deals and become part of the T20 tournament.
Earlier, all the franchises were asked to retain a total of four players ahead of the mega-auction. Meanwhile, new teams Lucknow Super Giants and Ahemdabad Titans were asked to pick a total of three players each from the non-retained players. And, now, all the 10 teams are ready to lock horns in the bidding war of the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
Ravichandran Ashwin opines on Faf du Plessis position in IPL 2022 Auction
Ahead of the player’s auction, Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with an opinion on Faf du Plessis, who was an important part of CSK in the previous edition. As per the Indian off-spinner, CSK will have to splash big amount of money in order to secure the services of the batsman. Previously, CSK had roped du Plessis at a very less price of INR 1.5 Crores. But, this time the case is very different.
In IPL 2021, Faf du Plessis smashed 633 runs in just 16 games for CSK with the help of 1 century and 4 fifties.
“Last time around, CSK stole Faf du Plessis for 1.5 crore. But this time, I don’t see that type of steal happening for him. CSK fans will definitely have him on their wish list. If CSK wants to buy Faf du Plessis this time, they should definitely be ready to spend a lot more than they did last time. Faf du Plessis will have a great demand in my opinion. Faf will be sought after by most teams,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Ashwin also feels franchises will play big gamble on the name of Quinton de Kock and Jonny Bairstow on 12th and 13th February.
“De Kock recently retired from Test cricket. So, most teams can think since he has retired from Tests, he will be going to all countries playing T20 cricket and so he will be sought after,”
“When it comes to foreign openers, one who should be going for highest in the pecking order is Jonny Bairstow. There is no such thing called ‘Negative bone’ in Bairstow’s body. He targets all the bowlers from the word go putting the bowlers under extreme pressure. Bairstow will command a huge price in this year’s auctions,” stated the 35-year-old.
