ENG vs SA, T20I Series: Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Dawid Malan blitz helps England take a 1-0 lead

On the ongoing South Africa tour of England, England emerged on top of the visitors in the first T20I in Bristol. Many new records were created as a whopping total of 427 runs were scored as a whole. Jonny Bairstow hammered a career-best 90 and Moeen Ali registered England’s fastest T20I fifty in just 18 balls. Meanwhile, the hosts racked up their second-biggest score in the T20Is in this high-octane clash.

Winning the toss England elected to bat first. Lungi Ngidi gave the visitors a healthy start as he dismissed both openers Jos Buttler and Jason Roy in the powerplay. Dawid Malan (43) and Jonny Bairstow (90) changed gears in the 10th over as the duo smashed 21 off Tabraiz Shamsi.

After the dismissal of Dawid Malan in the 11th over, Moeen Ali added to the misery of the Proteas hitting 6 sixes and 2 fours to reach his fifty in just 18 deliveries. None of the African bowlers were spared as England brought up 234 for 6 by the end of their stipulated 20 overs.

In the chase, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley, and Adil Rashid shined with the ball as the trio took three, two, and two wickets respectively. Reeza Hendricks (57) tried to anchor the inning but was trapped by Moeen Ali in the 9th over.

Later Tristan Stubbs (72) put up a lone fight to bring his side back into the game but the run rate kept creeping up on them. South Africa managed to score 193 with the loss of eight wickets as England registered their first win in the series by 41 runs.
